Bon Echo Mazinaw Lake-Sawmill campground
Rating:
Camp Date:

Bon Echo is a great park. Mazinaw lake has exclellent swimming and fishing. Our site was located directly behind a comfort station which was a plus for us, it was our first camping trip with our newborn daughter. The site is located in an area known as the bowl, clsoe to North Beach and boat launch anddog area. The site was large and flat, with plenty of options to set up tent, or trailer and a dining tent. We camped with friends located at site 95 and 97. The located for small children ro run was ideal..... easy to see everyone and very little traffic on our loop (thereis only 5 sites)The fire pit also in a good location. Lack of privacy....site is located directly beside the water tap. I recommended to the staff that a fence panel should be installed to creat a boundary so other campers fetching their water aren't so quick to just walk through the site. Another negative point to consider...Staff arrived by truck each morning between 6am-8am to clean comfort station.....loud rumbling of the truck and the pressure washer running beside us was too much to ignore.
I would return to Bon Echo in a heart beat and I would stay in this loop again...(if need be) But I would like to try the Fairway area, which is closer to South Beach (beautiful)

Corner Site No Privacy
Rating:

Medium site that is flat. Its at corner so you have people all around you. Don't believe Ontario Parks rating seclusion is poor. However it does have lake view.

Lake View Sorta
Rating:
Camp Date:

This site is small in the sense of how much level ground there is. You can put a tent and thats about it for level spots. However it does have a beach front and nice lake view. Don't believe Ontario Parks seclusion is poor.

Good but not the Greatest
Rating:
Camp Date:

I'm sorry, my review should've been for site 139 and NOT 140.
#140 looked pretty good actually, as did #133. Well spaced, level and reasonable privacy with good (cleaner) ground cover.

Good but not the Greatest
Rating:
Camp Date:
6/27/2010
I researched a site for this campground extensively, I'm a big "privacy" person and wanted something close to the water for our child to go free but in our view/range. This site is not near as private as I had hoped. Open to the road and neighbours to the right without much tree coverage. Worst part was the sloping of the site (incline toward the water below), hardly any level terrain to work with. We only had a 8' pop-up and it was a challenge to position. The site is big, but much of it slopes significantly. Only big plus to this site is a direct path to the beach, which is farther than one expects (walking trail between site and beach) and the "lake view" is obscured by many trees.

GORGEOUS
Rating:
Camp Date:

We didn't stay on 115 - but were envious of the people that were! This site has a spectacular view of the Bon Echo cliffs. It also has a direct path to the beach. Electric site. I would recommend a tent or small trailer. It is a large site but not a huge amount of level ground - enough for a smaller shelters.

Hi - Just returned from a two night stay at Bon Echo. We stayed on site 114 with a tent trailer. Loads of room. Great view of the lake. Nice level site with lots of trees. Close to flush toilet and water.

Rocky yurt
Rating:
Camp Date:
8/28/2008
Hi everyone,
If you have wondered about renting a yurt - here is a review! The yurt was very impressive with loads of room. Bright lighting. Inside a large table and 6 chairs. Outdoors - small deck and gas BBQ. Our friends ran out of gas for the BBQ - and park staff quickly replaced it.
There are 2 yurt spots in Bon Echo. 148 is the poorer site. It is very rocky - not much flat ground for any games or activities. Not much space for campfire.
Good site - but choose 153 if you can!

Don't believe the rating
Rating:
Camp Date:
8/28/2008
Hi everyone,
We stayed on site 108 for the Labour Day weekend. We were nervous - because on the Ontario Parks website - this site was given a poor rating for privacy and an average rating for quality.
Don't believe it! This site is great and LARGE! If you position your tent or trailer correctly - there is no privacy issue!
short walk to showers, close to water
super!

Decent Site
Rating:
Camp Date:

This site was decent, but nothing spectacular. It was hard to find a good spot to tent as the ground was mostly uneven. Privacy was fair and the firepit is in a good location. It is fairly close to an outhouse which is good.

Canadian Shield camping
Rating:
Camp Date:
7/25/2005
Bon Echo is a great place to camp, especially if you love the Canadian Shield. Make sure you go over to the Mazinaw rock. Our site was great. Up on top of a hill, and the end of a loop. Not much traffic. Pretty private. A mother bear and cub visited the site across from us, but the Park Warden says that hadn't ever happened in the 20 years he had worked there. They didn't come back the rest of the week, but the raccoons did...

We loved this site. Big rock in the site, at the end of a loop. Camped the weekend after Labour Day. Quiet, but all services and programs were still running.
